Our book launch event held a few days ago was a great success!
It was so good to see people from many different contexts come to the headquarters office of Livability (the organisation I work with) last Wednesday. In fact it felt like a birthday party, with people present from all the different circles I’ve connected with over the years.
“Building Connection: Moving Beyond Isolation and Loneliness in our Communities”
This was the title of the event, which was held in partnership with Livability. As well as giving me the opportunity to explain the message of the book, it opened up the theme of isolation and loneliness – something that is rapidly becoming one of the major crises of our day…
- 66% of people in the UK say they have no one to speak to about mental health, relationships or money
- 65% of young people (16-24 years) report feeling lonely at least some of the time (by comparison, just 32% of over-65s say this)
- 8 million people live alone in the UK (and the age group that is seeing the most rapid increase is 45-64 year olds)
So thank you to those who came. And of course it’s not too late to buy the book…
