Session 3: Emotionally well
One area of life that many of us struggle with is our mental and emotional health. We may be physically well and materially solvent, but internally we are grappling with anxiety, depression or addictions. What to do?
Emotions play a key role in our lives. Far from being “touchy feely” and only for more sensitive people, they are at the root of all social relationships. They are, if you like, “e-motions”, sources of energy that move you somewhere. So, becoming more self-aware and others-aware will help us enormously to navigate both our own inner health and our connections with others – with great benefit to all!
Session 4: Relationally well
If we want to be happy and satisfied in life, we need to nurture healthy relationships. Even the negative evidence of loneliness points to their profound significance.
We learn health-giving relationships from our earliest days, as we form attachments or bonds with our parents or carers. How those connections develop goes on to determine our relational capacities for the rest of our lives. And where we discover dysfunctional patterns, finding a healthy way forward will impact ourselves and our relationships for our whole lives.
Session 5: Spiritually well
There is much talk of spirituality today, but for many of us it’s an area of mystery and uncertainty.
The spiritual sphere can perhaps be best understood as the space occupied by profound-and-essential-but-difficult-to-define matters such as meaning, a feeling of belonging, connection with whatever lies beyond us, and a sense of wholeness. They raise big questions about life, such as “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” “What is the meaning of life?” and “Why do we experience good and bad?”
So, we explore these themes in this session. Finding an underlying framework and foundation for our whole lives turns out to be vital for our wellbeing.
Session 6: So what?
We travel a long way in this course, covering a lot of ground, asking many questions. Where has it led us? That’s the purpose of our final session.
One of the most important human attributes is the capacity to choose. Choices become habits, and habits change our character. So, taking responsibility for our thoughts, words and actions is of profound importance. How then to navigate our way through life? This session gives some clues and pointers, and encourages to make our choices.
A well-lived life leaves an imprint, a legacy. How will you live your life, and what will your legacy be?
